Back in January, we posted the news that Scooby had taken over another local pound in Palencia.
This pound and the dogs are in desperate need of care and upgrade.
We put out a plea for help *Operation Palencia* and since then have received some amazing help from our friends in the USA. GRIN (Galgo Rescue International) has offered to match donations up to $1,000 for Operation Palencia! We originally were aiming to send $1000. If we meet our goal, we would be able to send over $2,000 to help the dogs at the Palencia pound.
Below is the original post. Please share and participate if you can.
Over the last several years, Scooby has taken over operations from several state run dog pounds. This is not an easy task, as many of them are a good distance from the main shelter and in addition to managing each location, Scooby is also responsible for strays and on call for rescues.
The latest is for a pound in Palencia, approximately an hours drive from Medina del Campo.
Fermin Perez, the President of Scooby, has officially signed the contract that legally allows Scooby to manage the pound and also be responsible for the collection of strays in that region, as of January 1st, 2015.
As you can see from the photos, it’s a very sterile and cold environment. One Scooby team member described it as “depressing” after visiting the location. This is due in part to the large amount of work that is needed, and more so that there are too many dogs and the pound is already overcrowded.
Homes are urgently needed, so if you are in a position to foster or adopt, please let us know. The dogs are a mix of breeds as it’s the local pound, and they will be on the Scooby website soon.
Scooby can do it, but we can’t do it alone.
Please share, spread the word and donate if you can.
Scooby Canada has launched Operation Palencia and the goal is to raise $1,000 CND by March 1, 2015 to be able to send to Scooby to help with the upgrade, maintenance costs and feeding and caring for the animals. GRIN has offered to match donations up to $1,000 – which means we could potentially send $2,000!
