It’s a long story, so we’ll try to make it short. It was in 2004 that Eva Andrews volunteered at the Scooby shelter in Spain. After that trip she was asked if she was interested in representing Scooby in North America. It was an offer that was accepted with great honour and enthusiasm. Scooby North America was born in 2005. A few years later the interest for Galgos in the US increased, we expanded our network of volunteers. In September 2014, Eva decided to pull back and focus only on Canada, so Scooby Canada was formed exclusively to be the voice between the Scooby Animal Refuge in Medina del Campo, Spain and the people of Canada.
Scooby Canada exists for the following:
- Adopting. On average there are over 300 dogs – both galgos, mix breeds and pure breeds at the shelter.
- Volunteering. Feet on the ground at the shelter helps both the animals and people working at Scooby. We help prepare you to travel to Scooby whether you are a practical or medical volunteer.
- Fundraising. It’s costs about $15,000 CND to run the shelter, every month! Every donation counts.
- Raising Awareness. The more people know about the situation in Spain and the shelter in Medina del Campo, the more we can help.
